Okay, here's a great transformation for you!  My daughter, Jentry, is trying to furnish her first apartment and she needed a TV table.  So we found this table at the goodwill store for $30.  I knew it had potential because of the ornate carvings in the woodwork, and it had this cool copper top.  I forgot to take a before picture so this is a picture after i had taken it apart and started prepping it.  Of course, the biggest tragedy had happened on the way home in the back of the pick-up. The two drawers flew out of the truck and splintered in pieces! I almost abandoned the whole project then and there, but luckily Jentry's grandad came to the rescue and repaired the drawers-good as new!

So, it was cleaned up and lightly sanded......

Then it was painted with two coats of valspar paint from Lowe's.  The color is SEA BREEZE.  Take a good look, cuz the color changes a lot with the stain.

Next, the distressing...my favorite part!  I took my hand sander with #80 sandpaper and roughed it up real good.  It makes it look aged and worn.  Then I added the stain.  I used a mixture of 3 parts glaze to 1 part stain...dark walnut.  I just painted it on and wiped it off to my content.  See how it settles in the sanded off places!
Two coats of water based poly on top for protection. (One tip I have learned when applying poly on top of stain:  I always SPRAY poly on real good first, THEN paint the liquid poly on top of that.   I have seen the stain be wiped off by painting liquid poly on first.)
I spray painted all the hardware with rustoleum hammered metal copper, and I applied some of my antiquing glaze to this as well.  Looks great on the piece!  It had been an ugly brassy color.  I didn't understand why it wasn't copper in the first place, to match the top!

Here she is in all her glory!  I'm glad she was rescued and given a new life.
I didn't paint the inside of the cabinet.  That just seemed like a big waste of time and supplies.  Nobody sees it anyway.  Besides it's a reminder of what it looked like in it's former life.

The copper top had some tarnished places (no its not paint).  I was going to try and shine her up, but then I thought I kinda liked it that way, it adds to the distressed charm!

Bye Bye table! I wish you many happy days in the girls apartment!
